Ashdale Village: The Heart of Little India

Happy Hallowe’en! Woodfield Road closure

Hey there ghouls and goblins – Remember Woodfield Road will be closed Hallowe’en eve from 5:30 to 10:30 pm for our annual Hallowe’en street crawl & trick’r treatin’ bonanza. Closure will be from Walpole south to Gerrard St. East. Fairford Ave. will also be closed this year from Hiawatha Rd. west to Woodfield. This will alleviate congestion and confusion at the corner and also allows for safer viewing of entertainment at 375 Woodfield Rd. This year you can catch 3 breathtaking shows by the Pyromeo, the Fire Eater, between 7 and 8 pm, courtesy of Belynda Blyth.

Street closure is facilitated each year by residents on Woodfield Road. If you enjoy the traffic free ‘trick or treating’ please consider donating to the cause. Donations can be dropped to Rob Torr and Stephanie Graham at 352 Woodfield Road.

Have fun! Be safe!!

Fairford/Coxwell Intersection Follow-up Meeting

THE PROBLEM:

Upper Gerrard is a major arterial road, designed to carry lots of commuter traffic. Fairford is a local residential street, designed to carry local traffic. The two meet in a delta intersection which is unsafe for pedestrians and encourages commuter traffic to cut through the local neighbourhood. Even semi-tractor trailers have come onto Fairford and gotten stuck.

THE GOAL:

  • Increase pedestrian safety
  • Decrease commuter traffic infiltration through the neighbourhood
  • Make the intersection more beautiful

THE PROCESS:

  • Tested two new intersection designs and conducted traffic counts
  • Numerous site meetings
  • Residents’ feedback through email and letters and phone calls
  • 3rd party review by traffic engineer with pedestrian specialty
  • Community Meeting (Information below)

Date: Thursday, June 23, 2011
Time: 6:30PM – 8:30PM

Location: Roden School Gymnasium,
151 Hiawatha Road (At Gerrard St. E.)
